OHV Management in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park

August 18, 2010 – The National Park Service (NPS) has published a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Nabesna ORV Management Plan in the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. The DEIS comes as a result of previous litigation challenging the NPS issuance of ORV permits for recreational use. Under the proposed DEIS, recreational ORV use would be permitted on all nine existing trails and all but one trail (Suslota) would be improved to at least a maintainable condition...

I saw this headline in the Interior Trails Quarterly and had to read the article at "http://www.snowtravelers.org/files/itq.pdf"

Yup, dog are now prohibited from walking on trails in the Palm Desert area. Who would of ever thought....... and their even pushing it farther, trying to get the same for the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains.

Increase in your electric bill

So we all want to help out the community and some of us even make donations when were feeling generous, but now GVEA is going to "roundup" everyones monthly electric bill so they can give your money to the charity of "their" choice. I don't know about you, but I had to do some digging to find this and plan to Opt Out. Charities are great, when I want to donate to one of my personal choice, as there are some I wouldn't give to. Helicopter drop off and I'm ready..

We were down at Hurricane this weekend and it rained all day, clouds cleared and lots of snow on the mountain tops above us, it was beautiful but a tad bit chilly all 3 days.

Snowmachining closed at Denali

Because of the deterioration of the snow pack, snowmachining in Denali National Park and Preserve is closed and several trails in the Cantwell area will be closed until June 15 to protect vegetation and soils from damage during breakup, according to a press release issued by the National Park Service on Monday.

All park lands that were open for snowmachine use are closed as a result of warm temperatures that have melted most of the snow in the area.

Well we did it, we drove to Summit last Wed. eve and came home last night. It was probably the best weekend after Arctic Man trip we have made if you don't count the raging blizzard we encountered from Donnelly Flats to Summit on the drive down. On the up side that blizzard dumped over a foot of snow in the Hoodoos making for great riding. Weather was mostly severe clear. Denali closes sections of park to snowmobiles

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A lack of snow cover has led officials of Denali National Park and Preserve to close northern sections to snowmobiles for the season.

The closed areas are north of the Alaska Range.

Officials say areas of the park south of the Alaska Range still have adequate snow for snowmobiles, but conditions are diminishing quickly.
