I live in North Pole just past Hurst on Badger. I head to either Summit or Cantwell at least once a month. I have a 4 place enclosed and most of the time it has an open place or two. I wont be able to make it to the first meeting since I am still deployed. I will let you know when I am back and if you like we can hook up and hit the hills.

What do you ride? I only Carry one tow strap so we have to limit it to one Arctic Cat LOL

Hi Michael, you should come to our first meeting this season. It is Oct. 20th at Northern Power Sports at 7 p.m. It would give you a chance to meet us and see what the club is all about. We will be talking about the ride calendar too. We will also be at the Winter Show at the Carlson Center Sept. 24-26th. It is also a good opportunity to get some info on the club, stop by our booth and introduce yourself. Hope to see you at one or the other!

I am Michael. I have been in AK and riding for about 10 years but not much in the past 3 years. I would like to get out more but sadly my riding friends, from when I was active duty AF have PCS'd. I usually ride local trails, white mountians and summit.

OHV Management in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park

August 18, 2010 – The National Park Service (NPS) has published a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Nabesna ORV Management Plan in the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. The DEIS comes as a result of previous litigation challenging the NPS issuance of ORV permits for recreational use. Under the proposed DEIS, recreational ORV use would be permitted on all nine existing trails and all but one trail (Suslota) would be improved to at least a maintainable condition...

I saw this headline in the Interior Trails Quarterly and had to read the article at "http://www.snowtravelers.org/files/itq.pdf"

Yup, dog are now prohibited from walking on trails in the Palm Desert area. Who would of ever thought....... and their even pushing it farther, trying to get the same for the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains.

Dave,

I have been gone since 15 June. That is my excuse for such a late reply. Yes, "Family," nothing that a relatively new rider could not handle.

And thanks for the offer to lead more rides. We often have a leader or two drop out during the winter and have to scramble for a new leader. I will keep you in mind.

We are a go for Saturday. We will meet at 10am. I will post where later. I invite all to a briefing at the big dipper conference room Friday at 5pm. I will supply pizza and sodas. I would donate time for you but, I have young ladies coming over and I am showing them how to make real root beer and ginger ale. Using real sassafrass root and ginger. Last batch was made with extract just to show them the basics now it is the real thing.

But available later to help.

I pulled a staking draw from DNR, info at http://dnr.alaska.gov/mlw/ click on "Remote Cabin Staking". It's basically a lottery you apply for and hope you pull an authorization, I just got lucky.

I do know of a guy who has 5 acres for sale up there, you interested ?

Hey just curious, how do you get 20 acres or any land for that matter in the White Mountains?
Is this land that went up for sale or something else?
I have been looking for 20 to 40 acres for a while.
Any help would be appreciated.

Sure Larry, be glad to go over it with you. Lots of brushing to do is the biggie, that and knowing how to use your GPS helps :<)

I have a nice 20 acre area picked out, just bring your chain saw and sweat and we can discuss it while we work ....

I may be able to help - I'll put it on my calendar (31st, right?) - I am on call work wise, but I'll see if I can switch (I doubt there is cell service on the "trail".) I'll watch this thread for details.

I do not have an ATV, so I'll need to hitch a ride. I have GPSes and a very dry sense of humor ;).
