Re: Feb 9th, Tanana Flats
The trails that were closed on our January Tanana Flats ride are all open now so it will be a different and hopefully better/longer ride than last time. For those of you who have not been in the Flats, it is a combination of narrow trails and big wide open fields. It is true wilderness with no food ...

February 17
 Four of us rode down the Tanana most of the way to Nenana today to check the trail for our 17 February ride. It was great! There is some jumble ice that you can't get around - but it has lots of snow cover. There were a few places where the ice is a little thin - but we never hit open wat...

Re: 5 January Tanana Flats ride
Yes, we made it to Clear Creek Butte. If you are looking for deep snow in the big fields, it isn't there yet. If you are just looking for a nice trail ride, the trails are in very good shape, smooth with no overflow and no bear ground except on the climb up the Butte. The Bonnifield is closed (perma...

Re: Clothing
Nobody has mentioned boots yet. When I moved here I assumed that 40 below boots would be adequate since I had no plans on playing outside at colder than 25 below. I was wrong. For riding at 20 below or colder, you need at least -80 boots.

Heather,
The only three replies you got all suggested a Tundra. Let us know what you think after you have done your test ride.

5 January Tanana Flats ride
This ride will depart from the boat landing/day park at the end of Chena Pump Road at 10:00 AM and should be back before 3:00 PM. It will be a nice, easy ride of about 50 miles ideal for families and beginning riders. We will ride down the Tanana River for a few miles and then go into the Tanana Fla...

Re: Suggestions for figuring out what machine to buy?
Ask Steve Nolan what he bought for hauling wood. He seems very happy with it. On our last Maclaren trip there was a guy with a newish Tundra. It was light and would go anywhere. It is worth looking at. Yes, there are new machines without electric start but in most cases it can be added (I paid $700)...

Re: Feb and Mar 2013 rides
John, I have been up that trail twice and, except for one little section where you have to get on a ridge to get around a field of willow, it has been pretty well used. I don't think you will have any trouble getting in that way. It was a great ride. :grtruckn: irshpryd40, Is that Chris? Shall I put...

We still have openings for rides on 2 February and 30 March. Anybody up for leading a ride on one of those dates?

Re: October 17, 2012 - General Meeting Notes
Sean Osborn also told us about the by-pass they made around the downed trees on the Bonnifield Trail. They have essentially created a new trail on the east side of Clear Creek Butte that connects with the Bonnifield on the north and south ends of the Butte.

Re: October's members meeting
Ft. Wainwright will be sending their guy in charge of recreational use of the Tanana Flats to the meeting. The Army has done some work on reopening the trails that were closed last winter due to downed trees. They are planning on doing more work as soon as it snows. He is new to the job, so this wou...

Re: Update on Ester trail closures
Heather has already put the Ester trail closure in the agenda for our next board meeting. If there are other ongoing efforts to keep specific trails in this area open, I am unaware of them.

Update on Ester trail closures
Hi Folks, As I stated in my posting of 20 August 2012, I am pursuing a legal strategy to protect the public access to the Ester Valley Trail system and the Eva Creek Trail. Obviously, with litigation, there are no guaranteed outcomes, but I feel we have a good position; and if we don’t act, we are s...

Re: 2012-2013 Ride Calendar
Maclaren or the Trek Over the Top: FST has scheduled a ride to Maclaren Lodge in the 1st weekend in March for several years now but the numbers have dropped significantly over the last three years. Right now we do not have a leader for that ride. Would anyone like to volunteer to coordinate and lead...

Are there any more volunteers out there who are willing to lead a ride? We still have lots of openings.
