Fairbanks to Nenana waypoints

#1 Post by dgrauman »

I seem to be unable to access the GPS routes from the page where the maps are shown. Does anyone have the waypoints for the Water Wagon to Nenana route that they'd be willing to post or e-mail me?

Thanks.

Yeah, my fault. I still need to work on permissions to let folks download the waypoint tracks.

What are you looking for:

MapSource (mps file)

OziExplore (plt file)

Fugawi (trk file)

Or will this work

Some problems with this trip you should be aware of, the musher that was keeping the trail in along the railroad north of Nenana is no longer active (mile 314 parks hwy Runyan was the musher name) and part of this trail is now marked no trespassing, as of last year, also a creek behind Skinny D that cuts across the trail is deep, 4 foot cut bank sides that will be hard to cross with out filling it in with snow. This trail was done with a GPS while the Fire Plug dog race was using it to race from Clear sky lodge to Ester, hasn't been a race for years. To bad too was a good trail, you could make a round trip to Nenana out of it then up the Tanana but it was a long ride.

mapsource would be best, but what you have given me helps.

How is the powerline that runs near the Parks towards Nenana for snowmachining? In years past it was easy to access from my house near Yak road on Chena Ridge by going down Montana Drive to Chena ditch rd. then off the end of the road and on to a trail that was pratty well kept up. When I tried it this year, it seems a house had been built along the trail at the point it turned North towards the Parks, and I can't really identify where I picked up the powerline by driving along the highway.

Previously, the trail off the Ridge led across the Parks and on to the powerline that you could then follow for quite some distance.

What I'm looking for is a trail that I can put some miles on that could be easily accessed from near my house if not just out the back door. I don't really care if it goes anywhere, but I'd prefer not to just be going next to the highway.

To bad about the that house being built in the trail, we'll be seeing more of that as time goes on, to bad the brough is so slow on their trails projects, 100 loop trail etc.
Sounds like the easiest thing for you to do is get to the river and hit the swamps across the Tanana or run down the Tanana.
If you can get over to the fire house at Ester go toward FBKS just before that first gift shop along the parks there is trail up a power line that should open the Ester dome trail system to you.
Do like I do, leave the house and run every trail you find, some times you run into someone's yard but thats why they make reverse.
