Needed:old track

#1 Post by txcanyon »

Edit: I've got a trailer now. Just looking for the finishing touches

Anybody have an old track taking up room somewhere? I have sturdy 2x12s as flooring, but looking for something to keep it from getting chewed up by the studs in my track when loading/unloading.

I was looking at a small utility trailer to fit my needs, but not quite what I want.

If you find a way, I'd be interested in what you come up with.

My need is more for moving machines in and out of the garage. When it is cold out, I like to park my truck in the garage, and there is no room for a snowmachine at the same time. I typically drive or drag them in and out. Got me thinking, a small narrow trailer might be the thing to get.

For driving down the road, I think one of those Utility trailers would fit the bill. Check Craigslist often, as there is a few of them for sale, but most people are really proud (want $$$$) of them.

I was talking with my wife after the ride yesterday and really pushing home the trailer bit. Evidently Fred Meyers sells a kit as she has seen the trailer there once upon a time. I'll probably go take a look after my ride on-post with my army friends today. From what I've read on the internet, it the same you get from harbor freight. There is also website out there that has steps to shorten it to 6ft change to 12" wheels, and make it a fine sturdy trailer for a sled.

Not to derail your plans, but those trailers they sell at fred meyers (fold up) do not make good trailers. Have known a lot of guys who have had them and lost machines because of the cheapness of the trailers. Your best bet would be finding a nice used two place sled trailer. Also Lowes sells a 4x8 trailer. It is under 900.00. I owned one and built a flat bed on top of it and it worked great. Just some sugjestions. Would hate to find out you lost your sled because a trailer folded up on you.

I bought one of those big two wheel carts from phillips recreation to move my sleds in and out of garage, it fits all sleds and works great even with one person two is better but i do by myself a lot, I paid $300 but was a great investment because I like to bring my sleds in garage after each ride and service. just a thought

Hey Programs...
I have one of the 2 wheel carts for moving sleds and its great, a little temperamental in the snow, but i need the workout anyway,,,

the fold up trailer is not something i woulds trust my towing my sleds on.,//. and i have 2 of those,,great for hauling aluminum cans or long trees for fire wood.

a good trailer is really what you need....kinda like a helmet..how much is your sled worth...

'course i wear a fur hat,,,but have a good trailer,,,

The biggest problem with these used trailers, is that they are darn near impossible to title or register due to changing hands so much. I've looked at 5 trailers in the last few days and none of them can be titled without going through a long arduous process that has you putting an accessed value into a bond to the state.

I had a trailer that had no title to it so I made a bill of sale with the serial number on it and had my buddy sign it. Took the bill of sale down and was able to title and register it just fine, no questions asked.

What is funny is that I had modified and painted the trailer before this and the serial number was no where to be found, so I stamped another one on there which was the date I completed with a 001 at the end.
