Tesoro Iron Dog entry deadline nears

As race organizers prepare for the Tesoro Iron Dog’s 22nd annual race, they invited entrants to sign up before the November 30, 2004 pro-class deadline and the January 1st 2005 trail-class deadline.
Professionals Class entrants in the 2005 Tesoro Iron Dog will race over 2000 miles from Big Lake to Nome and back this year. Entry fee for Pro Racers is $2,000. Signing up this week were Nome’s own Tre West with his teammate Alvin Newlin from Kotzebue. Both will be racing on Arctic Cats.
Trail Class entrants have until January 1 to sign up for the one-way route from Big Lake to Nome: Their fee is $1,250.

Racers have several options for entering. Entry forms are available on-line at www.irondog.org, under “Race Sign-up”, at the Iron Dog headquarters at 7100 Old Seward Highway, Unit C., or can be faxed to interested parties who call HQ at 563-4414.

Tesoro Iron Dog race preparations are in high gear, and 40 racers have already signed up. Fourteen of these are rookie racers. Top name veteran racers include last year’s champions Mark Carr and Dusty VanMeter, along with seven -time champion John Faeo and his partner Todd Minnick. The 2002 champions Scott Davis and Todd Palin have completed their entry along with 2001 champions Ken Lee and Tracey Brassard.

The 2005 Iron Dog is scheduled to start at Big Lake on Sunday, February 13, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. “Iron Dog is excited about returning to the original race route this year, which will not only allow our racers to run a more strategic and tactical race, but will also provide a more challenging event due to extreme terrain both up and back.” stated Iron Dog President Curtis Green.
