EPA mandated extended warranties

#1 Post by paulneva »

I ride a Ski-Doo 600 E-Tec (direct injection) but what I recently learned is probably applicable to all late model machines regardless of manufacturer. One of the injectors went bad and I lost a piston and cylinder and all the associated parts. I was looking at a $2,300 repair bill. The machine was just over a year old and had only 204 miles on it so I pressed Compeau's to press BRP to see if I could get some relief on the price of the repairs. It took the better part of two weeks, but the service manager at Compeau's finally got ahold of someone at BRP who understood. The injectors are part of the emission controls on that machine. Because of that, EPA requires that they be warrantied beyond the one or three year warranty that is on the rest of the machine. Because it was an emissions control problem, BRP paid for all the repairs.
