Sweetheart ride

#1 Post by Badgersam »

Any details on the sweetheart ride? All I can see is meet at Chen's pump landing on Sunday. Where does it go, how long is the ride? Etc. Thanks

It goes down the Tanana river to Nenana to the Monderosa for Lunch and then return the same way. Calendar says 9 am, so I'm assuming that is the departure time.

Those are two very good questions. Lets first say the return trip is usually about 45 miles. Up the Tanana to the Chena to the park. The harder question is the trip down there. This part of the ride has been as little as 45 miles to 65+ miles. There have been some very beautiful and scenic un-planned excursions along the way. One persons short cut is another persons not-so-short-cut. About four years ago, John and I had a near record four mile round trip. We missed the burgers at the Mondo but John got to visit Darby's again with his sled.

The weather looks good this year with possibly +20s for the ride. Keep in mind last year they did not take plastic although there was an ATM there. For those going for the first time, this is the most popular ride of the year and is usually a lot of fun. We leave Chena Point at exactly 9AM :rolf: and take a few breaks to along the way to make sure all is ok. After leaving the Mondo we stop at the Chevron, in Nenana, for those needing fuel. Seeing a dozen sleds at the gas islands is fun to see.

Hope to see everyone there for a great day.

Mondo is cash only. They do have an ATM, but do not rely on it for cash. It is often broke down or cannot communicate with the mothership. Plus it cost something like $5 per transaction.

Glad to see all the interest. The ride is scheduled to "Meet" at 9:00 AM and I figured a 9:30 departure.

Should be at the Mondo by 12:00 or so.

Temps are suppose to be above zero, yeah team.

See ya ll there.

I'm in...borrowing a trailer and have an extra spot if anyone else is going from North Pole. Is the meeting still at Chena Pump Landing @ 9am?

John, what time would you anticipate being on the river for the return to Fairbanks?
