Best ride of the season, 7 of us (Shawn and Dawn Murphy, Nick S, Alvin, Davey, Mike C and Me) started out from Chena Pump Landing at 9:30 AM and not a one of us had been to Clear Creek Butt in a couple of years, so we left with hearty souls and faith in our communal memories.
Turns out it was a good thing we did, the usually route down the Tanana and onto the Flats was easy until we got about 7 miles in. At this junction the slough we were on comes out onto a big open field and normally we would hang a left to the Bonnifield Trail. On this day, no one had broken open that turn, so we followed the heavily used route south. Ooops, 3 miles or so we turned around and went back to the field and opened a trail to what eventually ran into the Bonnifield. We did do a lot of playing in a lot of fields of deep untouched snow. Davey, a photographer that was along got some footage on his drone of us riding and playing, showing to be announced
It turned out we went the long route to Clear Creek Butts and the hitch to the Cat Kitchen broke just as we got to the base of the hills, 28 miles in, no worries, were a resourceful bunch and after searching for various items to use to fix the 2 broken bolts, we were on our way and at the top of the Butt’s next to Paul’s Memorial marker in no time, where we had a good lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs along with the summer sausage and cheese that Alvin made and provided, good eats Alvin.
Did I mention that once we did get to the Bonnifield it was groomed, no, well it sure made the return trip smooth. We followed it all the way back and along a number of sloughs to the big field we broke trail on, so it turned out to be a 50 mile plus loop for the day. As I said, with all the powder, warm temps (at least by noon) and good company, it was the best trip this season.
And next time you see Murph, ask him how those brody's are coming along, a picture says it all, but he did do some excellent once without falling off his sled

The best snow I've seen this season and I had a blast. Can't believe it was in our own back yard. Burned up almost a full tank of gas pinning it all day in the deep snow. It was one field/pond after another of none stop fun. Thanks John for leading the ride and letting us play until we were wore out.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
