It was horrible, Warm weather, LOTS of new snow, Great people, Lots of smiles, and a few giggles.

Lost the leades before we got going, Mechanical. Left the Fbx Creek Lodge, Rode to Chat for cocoa and coffee, rode out to Olness, Hit the pipeline to Old Murphey Dome Rd, Crossed over to Silver Fox Rd, Across to Cleary summit.

Only one little mishap, aside from that and a lot of low overhanging trees, It Was an Awesome day

Didn't make it across Fish Creek, not enough ice build up to cross and I couldn't find the lower crossing point up the creek.

We rode to Fish Creek yesterday and came to the same conclusion. We then rode down to the lower crossing. Below is a picture of it. I started to walk out there to see how much cutting it would take to clear it out and the ice started popping with water coming up thru it so I retreated. The riding up here on top is a good as I can remember it ever being. I've attached a couple of pics.

I got a lot of that popping on the ice when I walked down the creek bed, it was the upper layer about 2 or 3 inches above the lower and (thankfully) thicker layer.

I can see why I didn't find the lower crossing, didn't think it was so clogged with overhang, time to do some chainsaw work on it.

The pics of Alpha-C look just like what we had on the other side of Fish Ck along Hillybilly Hwy and Iowa Dome road, only ours was a bit wider after breaking trail with the BearCat

I noticed the trail next to CHSR is the same way (needing chainsawing.) I road this trail last year and the year before and it was fine. I noticed this BEFORE the Big Ice (as I'm calling it), and I'm not sure what caused it. What are the laws regarding trail maintainance? I know most if not all the trail next to CHSR is "official" trail - can I clear it without being in the wrong?

Heather, I believe your correct and State DOT put that trail in a number of years back. Since it is a public access trail I don't think the state would mind if you cleared it for them. :<) Problem would be removing the brush and not piling it on private property, then folks might get upset.

Might call the borough trail folks and speak to Tom (459-1070) and get their input.
