I brushed out the lower crossing of Fish Creek and opened it up. Orange flagging on CHSR side and the Alpha-C trail was in decent shape. So you all can now ride from CHSR to Chatanika
Tried to go back via the Fuel trail, lots of fresh powder but to many branches hanging in the trail so we turned back at the mine.
Chuck, found one of your grooming signs, its now leaning against the short track in your yard
Adventure Rd is correct. I usually park in the (now closed) 10 Mile Merchantile parking lot. If you got 4 wheel drive you can still park there. Or you could try the gravel pit on Adventure Rd., not to sure how it is for parking in.
From the Merchantile, ditch bang to Adventure Rd, follow it down a mile or so till you get to the fenced in field, you'll see a trail to the right. Follow this down. You'll have to cross a bridge the club put in a few years back. One note, if you come to a backhoe blocking the creek, back track 100 feet and you should see our tracks to the right, if you keep an eye open for it you should see our track going to the left on your way in.
The turn takes you to the bridge we put in. Just follow the trail straight on down for 4 miles or so. You come out of the valley and start to enter some timber, keep an eye open for a reflective trail marker that goes to the right just about the time you see the timber. This will take you across a small creek, through the timber and uphill to Iowa Dome.
At the top you come to a road the mine put in, turn right. Follow this for 2 or 3 miles and watch for a sign"Hillbilly", this is the junction for Hillbilly Hwy <G>, turn right and go down the hill. Just before you hit Fish Creek, turn right and 100 to 200 feet you'll see some flagging tape, turn right again and cross the creek.
After you cross the creek you'll be on the Alpha C trail. It should have a good base now that I ran the Bearcat over it a couple times. Take the Alpha C to the end and you'll come upon a nice groomed route (thank you Chuck) that'll take you to Cleary, from Cleary head down the Fairbanks Creek Road to the Historical Fairbanks/Circle trail and then to Chatanika.
Notice; The route down the Historically "Fairbanks/Circle" trail to Chatanika is rough, especially about half way there. All torn up from summer/mud running and not enough snow to smooth it out.
You could continue down Fairbanks Creek Road (past the Historical Trail) and look for the 2nd or 3rd left turn. I haven't been down this one yet this year, but it'll take you to Sorrell Creek. A nice ride for the day that could get you 100 miles or more on your sled <BG>
