May board meeting minutes

The May board meeting opened in the Library at 1801 on 1 May. Board members present were Peter Vredenburgh, Tim Berg, Steven Enoch, Jim Miller, Myles Thomas and Paul Renschen.
Peter asked about the Cleary Summit ramp. It is not usable where it is. Pleasant Vally would like it. Peter and Jim have trailers big enough to move it if it will slide. Peter will see if it will slide.
Peter started a long discussion on an outreach to Ft. Wainwright. The consensus was that it should 1) start with a letter to the commander asking for his support, 2) ask to use the Outdoor Rec building for safety instruction, 3) ask to use Outdoor Rec's machines along with FST member machines for guided rides on the Chena River. If the program works well at Ft. Wainwright, we should repeat it at Eielson the following winter.
Jim led a long discussion on the gas pipeline.
Steven: For the Snowmelt Potluck; the pond is opening, the ducks have arrived, the snow is gone and the parking area is clear.
Tim: We should do a ride from murphy Dome to Tolovana Hot Springs next January.
Jim: There are interesting 4-wheeler trails up north around Livengood. Riders need a saw, winch, extra rope and hip waders.
Steven: There are good 4-wheeler trails on Ft. Greely but there are also unusual hazards.
The meeting adjourned at 1935.
