I now understand what you are speaking of. You are on Badger slough. not the Chena River..
In the old days the Chena river was called a slough, that is what I thought you were asking about in your original post.
correct names of these geographic places will make it easier to get all on the same page.

We have a cabin on the Chena, are not comfortable riding the river yet to get there, this cold snap may get us just enough ice to try it. I generally like to wait till Tony says its ok then wait two more weeks....

It should also be noted that since summer was so wet and the rivers and lakes were so high, they really didn't drop much before they started freezing. So now they are dropping and the ice is breaking/sinking giving us overflow and sharp banks.

The part I worry the most about when riding rivers with so little snow is hitting chunks of ice. It might look like a small little snow bump, but the snow gives way easy and your trailing arms and A-arms pay the price.

I have only made the one ride and it was the other direction, toward town, I dont think i;ll be making many anytime soon. as i have been traveling a bit and visiting the Dad in Washington state. I hope you all have good rides after the cold snap.
